The Programme Management Office (PMO) of the
Ministry of Planning and Development commenced full-scale operations in January
2007. This Office has been mandated to lead,guide and co-ordinate the implementation of
all Vision 2020 activities in the Public Sector. In fulfilling this mandate the
PMO is required to:
Facilitate the
strengthening of the project/programme
implementation/execution capability of the public sector;
Disseminate knowledge and
best practices across the public sector;
Evaluate and measure
performance and development outcomes of projects and programmes;
Build Monitoring and
Evaluation capacity in the public sector;
Develop project management
systems to facilitate efficient project and programme implementation;
Establish standards which
will be used as benchmarks across the public sector;
Collate information on the
status of implementation of the Vision 2020 Operational Plan;
Report on the status of
plan implementation and progress at the operational level;
Prioritise projects based
on criteria such as implementation capacity, financial viability, alignment
with Vision 2020 goals, as well as consistency with the overall National
Strategic Plan;
Develop and execute
transformational projects;
Assist in the
conceptualization and implementation of a comprehensive communications
strategy for Vision
Match micro level projects
with the macro level plans for each sector and the national plan
(operational plan).
